Our research group has published a new research article on antimony ethyl xanthate, a precursor for Sb2S3 thin films, in the Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry. Herein, we study the thermal decomposition of antimony ethyl xanthate for future application in ultrasonic spray pyrolysis to deposit Sb2S3 thin films for photovoltaic applications.

A new research article on emerging PV material- Sb2Se3 has been published in the Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells journal! In this study, we showed that large columnar Sb2Se3 grains are optimal for high performance next-generation thin film solar cells.

The first article of many more to come on antimony chalcogenide solar cells. 🤓

Today our colleague associate prof. Arvo Mere has been talking about the self-cleaning surfaces, currently under development in our research group, in ERR programme Terevisioon.
Self-cleaning surfaces can potentially be applied as a tool to combat healthcare-associated infections (HAI), and therefore are increasingly gaining attention and scientific interest.
TiO2 thin films under development are transparent in visible spectral range and can degrade several volatile organic compounds in indoor air, have self-cleaning and antibacterial activity.

Our bachelor student Rasmus Tõniste works on self-cleaning coating, to create a cleaner environment. 🤓
The aim of his bachelor's thesis is to develop a coating that allows making different surfaces self-cleaning. If a self-cleaning coating can break down viruses, it would also be a great help in preventing the spread of the Covid-19 virus that has invaded the entire globe.

We are happy to announce that the kick-off meeting of the Baltic/Nordic research project (Project No: S-BMT-21-1, for the period of 2021-2023) has taken place, which is a joint project between three Baltic states - Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, and the kingdom of Norway. It is coordinated by the Kaunas University of Technology from Lithuania, and the partners are Institute for Energy Technology in the Kingdom of Norway, Institute of Solid State Physics of the University of Latvia, and Tallinn University of Technology. The project is funded from the funds of the financial mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) States (Iceland and Liechtenstein) and Norway.

The aim of the project is to enhance research‐based knowledge development in Baltic‐Nordic states through cooperation by developing materials for semi‐transparent bifacial cost‐effective solar cells, which operate efficiently in full and faint sunlight, as well as snowy conditions. The main advantage of a bifacial solar cell is the possibility of offering a power conversion boost of more than 30%, and up to 50% with solar tracking compared to monofacial cells, without any additional cost of space for installation.

A supercapacitor with a capacitance of 5F is charged up to 3V. Is it possible to get out all of this energy from the capacitor in 10 seconds and dissipate it in a resistor? How? If not, then explain why.
