Hey thanks to everyone who participated in the Memorial Jam for Tom Torvie last Sunday. Whether you knew Tom or not, chances are he had a positive influence on you through his music and/or his sound engineering throughout Alaska, and he will be missed. I do want to take this opportunity to pass along the most recent Nuther Brothers update from the Other Nuther Brother Michael Faubion. In Tom's memory, a lot of funds have been raised for the Alaska Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and let's keep that going. 🎸

Hello to all friends of Tom,
Sending out again a “Nuther blast” of email. Again, wanted to thank all those who came to the memorial jam at Post 28 July 17. It was a beautiful summer day. Tom was an active member of the Alaska Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired and it is the family’s wish that, if you so choose, donations be made to that organization in his name. The Center has set up a special fund for donations in his name. It’s a little hard to find the on-line donation page. https://www.alaskabvi.org/donate/ Scroll down and click on “donate now.” that will take you to another site that collects the donations. There’s a drop-down under “Designation” and there you’ll find “Tom Torvie Memorial” The rest of it is the usual on-line payment form.

About the band: It’s just not the Nuther Brothers Band without the brother who was either the smartest or the handsomest (Perhaps our only disagreement as to which was which in the 15 years we made music together). But the music will go on. When Tom and I first formed a band, we called it Detour. Later, at a summer bluegrass festival we volunteered for an open time slot as the Nuther Brothers and played acoustic folk/country. The brotherhood and the name endured while the Detour name fell by the wayside. It seemed appropriate to return to the Detour name by way of carrying on the music, the attitude, the philosophy and the fun of the Nuther Brothers Band.

We’ll be playing as Detour at the Alaska State Fair on August 20, opening day, at the Sluicebox at 3:30, with Don Walker on pedal steel, Gary Price on drums, Tom Lambert on keys and Meg Anderson on bass. Hope to see you there. I will continue to keep you-all informed of future shows, gigs and goings-on via these emails. As always, if you do not wish to continue receiving these emails, just reply with a “delete me” note and I will do so. You can look for me on Facebook as well.

Arctic Valley performers---your sound equipment manual 2019/20.

For musicians playing at the Afterglow Pub at Arctic Valley this season, here is the info you need to know for the sound system. A critical piece of information: The Fender Passport IS the power amp. The Mackey mixer is unpowered. The main outputs are going through the Fender Passport power amp to drive the mains (which are unpowered). The JBL Monitor is powered and is fed directly from the Aux output from the Mackey. Progress through each photo and read the notes, message me with any questions and I will update the comments. All of this equipment is either Arctic Valley's (yellow tape) or LiveSound AK's (me and/or Barry's, marked with LiveSound stickers and/or black/pink zebra tape. Please treat it well and it will treat you well. You can always bring your own PA if you want but hauling stuff around a ski area is not without peril. Less is more when bringing equipment up to the mountain.

Thanks Jake for the 907 Alehouse gig with Hwy9!
