Advanced technology to tackle Greenhouse Gas Emissions

In a new blog post from Google, they take a closer look at our work with Carbon Tracker and World Resources Institute to use satellite imagery and artificial intelligence to track emissions from the world's power plants. A $1.7M Google.org AI Impact Challenge grant and Google Fellows supported the work, which later prompted the launch of Climate TRACE this summer.

How to Track the Emissions of Every Power Plant on the Planet from Space

"To estimate #emissions at the source, we need both spatial resolution that’s high enough to see plant operations and frequent observations to see how those measurements change over time."

Buildings account for 75% of US #electricity demand. There are quite a few ways that flexible demand can be harnessed; for example it can be shifted to moments of clean power to reduce #GHGemissions. But, "researchers say #utilities need to properly value that flexibility in order to fully engage [buildings] as energy resources."
