Testing can be performed in our Houston, Texas pilot plant using feed (such as PLS), solvent, scrub solutions and/or stripping solution supplied by the client. Alternately we offer these columns on a sale or rental basis for on-site testing on location where a slip stream of process material can be used as the feed. Project Update: Two identical distillation columns for the purification and recovery of valuable chemical components were designed, fabricated offsite, and shipped to a large chemical manufacturer for installation. The distillation columns and tray internals were fabricated from a high nickel alloy due to the corrosive nature of the process, and served to replace existing units that had corroded over time. As with any liquid-liquid extraction process, pilot plant testing is key for accurate design and process de-risking of a commercial scale extraction column for the recovery and purification of metals. Koch Modular has successfully demonstrated metals extraction testing in 1 – 3” diameter pilot scale, glass shell KARR® and SCHEIBEL® Columns. The glass shell allows for observation of the counter-current phase behavior, which greatly enhances the ability to optimize the performance during testing. The small size means that these columns will reach steady state in a minimal time frame which greatly reduces the amounts of materials and time required for testing. The columns can be operated individually for each specific extraction step, or multiple columns can be operated together (extraction, scrubbing, and stripping) in order to optimize metal SX processes in full recycle mode for the solvent.
