Wi-Fi is now essential for all building systems.

Reyes’ Low Voltage Design Studio utilizes iBWave software to calculate the strength of a Wi-Fi signal to determine the number of access points needed during the electrical design. Using a heat map like the one below, we can calculate the decibel strength and placement, thereby offering a cost savings to the client while ensuring durable Wi-Fi coverage for the building. Additionally, we work closely with the architect to make sure that we consider the aesthetics to conceal and cover the access points. Contact us to help you design your telecom systems for your next project.

Reyes Designs for Earth Day-Every Day

“Going green” is no longer something that companies strive to do, but instead, it has become a standard.

Reyes Engineering is helping our clients design for renewable energy and more earth friendly energy consumption. We are currently working on a light rail project in the Puget Sound area to design a photovoltaic (PV) system to generate 90KW of solar power to help our client potentially save $6800 per year. Two parking garages will use these roof solar-panels to off-set power consumption by 113 KWH per year. Reyes designed the use of these panels to include 30 micro-inverters instead of a traditional DC converter box. This is a more efficient use of space and materials as it removes the need for wiring to the electrical closet and places the inverter at the cell. The client is aiming for LEED Gold certification, and Reyes’ design for the PV cells will be a great step toward that achievement.

Cirque du Soleil’s Volta coming to the Portland Expo Center in June 2020

We are flipping over this project! Reyes Engineering is part of the design team transforming a Portland Expo Center parking lot into a fantastical venue for Cirque du Soleil's Volta, which will run June - August of 2020.

"Volta is Cirque du Soleil’s first sports-inspired show. Energetic, urban and contemporary, Volta offers audiences a captivating voyage of discovery that showcases never-before-seen acrobatics in a visually striking world under the Big Top."

With Volta, Portland Expo Center will be hosting Cirque du Soleil for the fourth time. The troupe brought Ovo to Portland in 2012, followed by Totem in 2014, and Kurios in 2017. The awe-inspiring performances attracted thousands of people from across the Northwest.

Reyes Engineering is a proud sponsor of the 2020 Washington & Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference, taking place at the University of Oregon March 2-4. This year's conference theme is "Root Causes to Sustainability Challenges and Positive Actions to Address Them". Reyes is specifically sponsoring the conference Design Challenge, taking place March 1st, which will require student teams to develop a preliminary program or business idea based on the theme of "Reduce/Reuse". Education and sustainability are two of Reyes Engineering's greatest passions, and we are thrilled to help make this event possible.

This year, our Seattle office spent some of our paid volunteer hours assembling makeup bags for a holiday event hosted by the fabulous Dignity For Divas – a nonprofit organization helping women in the Puget Sound area to transition out of homelessness. Thrive Causemetics donated several boxes of makeup for their event, and we at Reyes spent a few hours putting everything together to be gifted to women in need. Any chance for self-care is so important in staving off depression and hopelessness after experiencing homelessness, and Dignity for Divas works hard to support these brave women all year long. This Thanksgiving, as we take a look back on the year so far, we at Reyes have much to be grateful for. In 2019 we have added three talented new designers to our employee family, been awarded many exciting new projects throughout Oregon and Washington, established a brand new location in Los Angeles, and successfully celebrated 20 electrifying years of Reyes Engineering history.

Most of all, we are thankful for all of our friends, families, and clients, both old and new, and our continued happiness in the years to come. Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving, from everyone at Reyes Engineering.

Federal Way Link Extension | Project map and summary | Sound Transit

Reyes is on the move! Beginning this fall we are providing electrical engineering and lighting design services for the 7.8-mile Sound Transit Federal Way Link extension, which will add three new stations and parking garages to the Link light rail.

Reyes Engineering has a robust resume of transportation experience throughout the Pacific Northwest, with clients including TriMet, Lane Transit District, ODOT, WSDOT, SDOT, Sound Transit, and more. As the Puget Sound population continues to boom, public transit projects like this become more and more vital to the area, and we are thrilled to be a part of it.

As we approach a new decade, who better than digital-native Generation Z to give us a glimpse of the coming technology landscape? Our three fabulous interns have concluded their 6-week summer program with Reyes Engineering, and ended by giving a demonstration of their research project on virtual reality in building design. Combining VR tools with a Revit model, they were able to take the office on a 3D tour through the same project they visited earlier this summer, and showed how a boots-on-the-ground perspective can be achieved and utilized to create ultra-detailed renderings, and increase collaboration across all design disciplines.

What are your thoughts on virtual reality, and how it will shape the future of building design?

There is nothing like seeing the results of our work come to life. Yesterday Reyes Engineering attended a groundbreaking for the Leach Botanical Garden renovation and additions, where we have been providing electrical systems and lighting design. This project is particularly inspiring because it is the outcome of multiple public and private entities, as well a local volunteer group “Friends of Leach”, working together over many years to transform this hidden community gem. The renovation will add a new pollinator garden, outdoor concert space, multi-purpose event space, a welcome center and gift shop, a fireplace terrace, and a lighted aerial tree walk that will give visitors an overlook of the entire garden. When complete, the revitalized Leach Botanical Garden will serve as a respite from the urban landscape, providing space for education, events, and a connection to nature for visitors of all ages and abilities.

Reyes' summer interns recently attended a site visit to a project in early design. The project involves electrical upgrades to a three-story local native plant nursery and landscape contracting services building. During the site visit they shadowed and assisted project manager AJ Zvibleman in surveying the project’s electrical components to get a more complete understanding of changes that would need to be made, and then listened in on a meeting between AJ and a local utility representative to discuss current site conditions and possible solutions. Afterwards, the interns compiled a site report detailing what they had learned. Site visits like this are a vital part of our internship program, giving would-be designers and engineers the opportunity to see how we collaborate with multiple entities early in design to analyze and identify tailored solutions for projects of any size.
