A “Science City” in the Heart of Texas

Tom Slick Jr. – an adventurer, philanthropist and oilman – founded SwRI on a South Texas ranch in 1947. After recruiting talent from across the nation, he challenged his team of scientists and engineers to seek revolutionary advancements through advanced science and applied technology. That spirit lives on today. SwRI endures as one of the oldest, independent nonprofit organizations in the United States, providing innovative science, technology, and engineering services to government and commercial clients around the world.

Our 9 technical divisions: - Applied Physics - Applied Power - Chemistry and Chemical Engineering - Defense and Intelligence Solutions - Fuels and Lubricants Research - Intelligent Systems - Mechanical Engineering - Powertrain Engineering - Space Science and Engineering

We also operate the Center for Nuclear Waste Regulatory Analyses, an FFRDC sponsored by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

This is to notify Southwest Research Institute, that an employee of yours, Andrea Barnett,is a far rightwing extremist, who has ties to white supremacists.
In this week's episode of Astronomy News with The Cosmic Companion, we look at volcanoes of mud on Mars. We also see how life on Earth may have been shaped, at the genetic level, by cosmic rays from space. We explore collisions between black holes and ultra-dense neutron stars, and we take a look at the Wolfe Disc, an ancient galaxy that grew much faster than expected. Finally, we look at a pair of findings about galaxies, each from the same network of radio telescopes. Plus, in a fun, informative interview, we talk to Dr. Alejandro Soto of the Southwest Research Institute, who recently released a study showing how microscopic lifeforms may be affected by salty deposits of water on Mars.
