taste of science San Antonio taste of science is a national non-profit aimed at bringing science to the people! The San Antonio chapter offers monthly events with real researcher from our community.

We are taking the conversations out of academia and into fun spaces. Curious about the cosmos? Intrigued by evolution? Your questions have answers, and we bring you the brilliant minds who have found them

Our very own Samantha Toback will be presenting on #ArcheoAstronomy! Join us tomorrow night for this stellar event.

Join Us!! On October 28th, 2020 at 7:00pm, we will be having a virtual presentation with special speakers: Samantha Toback & Katie Raney !!!
.
Katie Raney works for Texas State Parks as a regional interpretive specialist, supporting interpretation and education at about 18 state parks in Central Texas. If you’ve visited a state park in the Austin or San Antonio area, you’ve probably seen her work in the form of a sign, brochure, trail map, or trained staff member. Outside of work, Katie enjoys hiking, backpacking, binocular astronomy, and hanging out with her pet hedgehogs. She thinks that one thing missing from the field of astronomy is a DSO named after a hedgehog.
.
Samantha Toback is an informal educator with a particular fondness for astronomy, wildlife, and history. She combines those passions in her day job as the Programs and Volunteer Manager at the Witte Museum and her volunteer roles with Astronomy on Tap SATX, taste of science San Antonio, and Texas Parks and Wildlife.
She loves helping people learn about and make connections with the world around us, whether it's in the ground under our feet or in the skies above our head. Samantha has a list of astronomical events that she has wanted to witness since she was a child: a solar eclipse, the aurora borealis, and Halley's Comet. She has seen the first two and is patiently waiting for Halley's Comet to return to Earth in 2061 - only 41 years to go!

Save Texas Bars! Our friends have supported us for over three years allowing us host events. Join Künstler Brewing in an effort to support and save our local businesses! #golocal #beer #savetexasbars 💪

𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐬

We want to thank bars in San Antonio who carry Künstler beer. Due to the Governor's orders, some bars are not able to be open at the moment. Some are open for to-go and some are just now being able to open as they serve food. Now is the time to support Texas Bars as much as possible so they can stay open. Because of this hardship, some Texas Bars have had to close their doors for good. We hate to see this happening to businesses in San Antonio. So, please take your time and support these businesses as much as you can.

Visit any one of these open locations (listed below) this Saturday or Sunday, bring us your receipt on Sunday and you will receive Happy Hour pricing on all in-house pint purchases here at Künstler.

Open Locations that serve Künstler beer:
The Point Park
Flying Saucer San Antonio
Big Hops (all SA locations)
Mad Pe**er Brewing Co.
Cullum's Attagirl
Dignowity Meats
The Modernist
The Friendly Spot Ice House

Temporarily Closed San Antonio Bars that serve Künstler beer:
Stout House Stone Oak
Krause's Cafe
The Esquire Tavern
502 Bar

Like Street, Like Hospital — taste of science

Hey, tastees!

I know it's been a minute... but I wanted to share a piece written by our resident science blogger, Aditi Desai, about her perspectives on #COVID19 & #BLM. As a budding and young professional, she is learning to navigate our changing era & wanted to share this with you.

Read & share this work!: https://tasteofscience.org/blog/2020/6/29/like-street-like-hospital-1

The Black Lives Matter movement has propelled individuals of all ages into action and critical thinking about equality means — especially healthcare professionals who routinely see disparities in minority populations. While COVID-19 exacerbated existing inequalities in Black populations, the Black

Hey y'all! Did you know that on June 19th, 1865, slavery ended and that Texas was the last state in the U.S. to abolish slavery? Today, this day is known as Juneteenth.

Today is Breonna Taylor’s birthday. She would have been 27 but was shot 8 times in her own home during the ex*****on of a senseless no-knock warrant.

We, at taste of science San Antonio, stand in support of #blacklivesmatter. Systemic racism has too long been a cornerstone and a primary determinant of our black brothers and sisters lives. We have been a nation that was built on a platform of oppression and have not done enough to recognize and rectify the systematic injection, by institutions we support, of racist ideals. Science is among these institutions.

We stand with our black brothers and sisters. We see you. We will say their names but know there are too many to count who have suffered injustice throughout history.

To support the #blacklivesmatter movement, please consider a donation to one of the organizations in the Google Doc and/or reach out to your elected officials to hold our governments and police accountable for the social injustices we continue to see today: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Xa9Av-NfuFsWBHlsMvPiqJHdNedZgnCRW56qAS-7PGQ/mobilebasic#
