InterActive Friends!

This past week has been a whirlwind of information, changes to daily life and our business that serves yours. Our hearts go out to you as you focus on making sure you family is safe and being well cared for.

We continue to hear about mandatory closures of schools and businesses across the country. Fortunately, we have also been hearing that due to the nature of Custom Electronics Design and Installation Service Providers businesses such as ours, where we are often working with security, surveillance and internet / networking, we are being considered among the "necessary businesses" that are (so far) being allowed to remain open and continue serving those in need.

Here are a list of some of the types of things our industry is hearing from our clients:

"I never realized how quiet it is in my house, can I get some information on house-wide speakers for when the panic dies down?

Remember that theater I was talking to you about adding?Since we are stuck at home, we would like to see if we can get it installed so we have something to do while we are here.

It's been so long since we have used the theater, I am just now finding out it doesn't work! Can you fix it?

Can I just buy a sound bar? I can install it myself.

I have some new tech gear that I have not had a chance to set up, and may not even know how - now that I have some time on my hands to enjoy it, can you help me figure it out?

Who knows how long this (name your technology) hasn't been working, this is my vacation home I'm only here to get away from all the infected people. Can you send someone out?"

We know the next couple of weeks are unclear. However, we will remain open and continue serving our client family both in person and remotely, unless forced to do otherwise.

If YOU or someone you love needs some assistance blending your "new" LifeStyle with technology, please reach out to us and let us know how we can help.

If you are entertaining this holiday season, don't wait till the night of the first party to fire up and/or test your entertainment systems. If you haven't been to that "special" room, or turned on the housewide system in a while - do yourself a favor and reacquaint yourself with how to make it sing. You might just find something that needs some attention - and we can help you, but not if you all call at once!

There are many client family members in the “path of destruction” zone in Dallas today. If you know anyone who has sustained direct or indirect damage to their home systems… Security, Internet, audio visual, etc.… Reach out early, because it’s going to be a long week!

Lightning Season - ARE YOU READY?

Hello to all our InterActive friends out there!

THUNDER & LIGHTNING season IS UPON US.

Do your electronic systems have proper protection from the inevitable?

Most people (but not all) seem to know to protect their incoming AC Power, but for a proper "bubble of protection" you MUST also protect ALL incoming signal lines against unsafe electrical levels. (i.e. - CATV / SAT / ANT / Phone). We see more of this "back door" damage than any other type.

In cases where electronic equipment is interconnected with wires (which is in most ALL cases) - all it takes is one good hit, through one pathway, to one component - and it can easily make the "magic blue smoke" (that makes it all work) come right out of everything! Low Voltage Communication signal lines should be properly protected not only at the point of entry, but also at each location where electronics are gathered into a "system" - whether that "system" is your home office, or your Home Theater.

Think about the investment you have in your home electronics (including your appliances), and if you determine that you could use some assistance in designing a proper "facility-wide" power and signal line protection plan - maybe we can refer you to someone who can help! ;-)

DO YOU LIKE VALUABLE FREEBIES?

IS YOUR HOME ENTERTAINMENT TECHNOLOGY NOT WORKING AS YOU THINK IT SHOULD - OR SIMPLY TOO HARD TO USE?

INTERACTIVE HOME has just the solution for you! Let's call it:
"Give us YOUR advice, and we'll give you some of OURS!"

We have recently updated our automated attendant phone system in an effort to serve our clients better - and we'd like YOUR feedback on the way it works for you. (Can you understand it, is it too fast, is it too slow, are there too many options, what option(s) did we not address?) We know it's always best to speak to a human - and we want to get folks where they need to go as efficiently as possible!

THE OFFER: We will provide a FREE, ON-SITE, ONE HOUR electronic systems (AV / Automation) consultation AND/OR performance calibration session to the FIRST 20 people who:

(STEP 1) LIKE us on Facebook! (STEP 2) Call our office (STEP 3) Listen to our phone system prompts (once all the way through), and then (STEP 4) When the options begin to repeat, press the 1 key on your phone to share your thoughts about our new phone receptionist with a member of our staff.

It's THAT simple. You can then let us know what time would be best to honor our end of the bargain - to come see you and review / calibrate your technology!

Disclaimer: Your needs must be within the Dallas/Fort Worth area - but all are welcome to participate - both Residential OR Commercial.

Friendly advice: 20 calls is not very many.....and if you call after 5pm CST, OR before 8AM CST – you can still participate – but you’ll need to leave a message, letting us know how/when to reach you back so we can get your feedback, and so we can “pay up”!

THERE IS NO PURCHASE NECESSARY - NOR WILL YOU BE PRESSURED IN ANY WAY. We just want to thank you for your input by sharing our talents with you. Our first impressions are the most important to get right!

Ready? GO! 972-219-0969

It is quite interesting to review this post of ours from 2011 and see how the perspective changes (already). How much of this have we already seen come to mainstream life?

You don't need automation? Dishwashers, Washer/Dryers, Garage Door Openers, Pool Cleaners.... shall I go on?

May 5, 2011 at 10:45am

The long day is over. You slide between the sheets more than ready for bed. "Is the garage door closed?" your spouse asks.

Or maybe you are 50 miles away from home on your way to a week of desperately needed vacation. "I wonder if I turned off the stove top?" you think.

Home automation technology can save you a trip downstairs, or a two-hour drive home and back.

Home automation uses technology to secure your home, operate lights and appliances, know the status of things like garage doors, water the lawn and even feed the dog.

Home automation has been around for quite a while. X10 made a system 30 years ago that worked great for loft apartment dwellers. Are you forever going to bed having forgotten to turn off lights downstairs? A bedside control would let users hit “All off” and all the lights they had hooked to X10 controllers would switch off.

Soon, there were computer interfaces to the X10 system that would allow for changing light patterns to come on and off at night when one was away.

Wi-Fi and other technologies are making home automation even more powerful. And while you may have heard that the Internet is running out of unique addresses, a new addressing system just around the corner will offer a huge increase in the number of devices that can be addressed by the Internet.

In the future, your washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven, garage-door opener, personal robot and robotic vacuum cleaner could all be connected to the Net.

Imagine getting a text message when the washer is done, or when the oven is done preheating.

Security systems can lock all your doors, or alert you when someone drives up your driveway, or when the mail has arrived in the mailbox out on the street. Motion control devices can tell if someone has fallen into your swimming pool.

The biggest boon to home automation is the spread of smartphones and tablets. Before, to make a simple-to-use user interface, home automation required custom-programmable touch screens that could cost thousands of dollars. Now often free apps on the iPhone, iPad or Android phones connect you to popular home automation systems.

Other apps let you see the feeds from your security cameras where ever you are.
Home automation systems can save you money by controlling your heating and air conditioning. If you know you are not coming home at the normal time, you can use your phone to tell your HVAC system to not turn on the air conditioning until later. A simple programmable thermostat can save you $250 annually in energy costs.

Digital / Personal video recorders can now be programmed from your cell phone, so you won’t miss your favorite program even if you forgot to program your DVR before you left the house.

In fact, you can stream video and music to all rooms of the house from central devices. Instead of massive collections of CDs, all your music can be on one hard drive and music can be called up from controllers in various rooms.

Home automation is credited with helping seniors stay in their own home longer by automating many tasks and by giving loved ones the ability check in with them remotely and monitor their well being.

With Wi-Fi networks in more homes, and as the net grows able to address many more devices, and as touch screen tablets get lower in cost, we are going to see more and more home automation capabilities.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Crestron’s Chairman and Founder, George Feldstein. After a brave battle with brain cancer over the past year, he passed away earlier today, peacefully at his home surrounded by family. His passion and love for our industry was evident in everything that he did. His influence has left an indelible mark on all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He was truly a great man and a great leader. We will all sorely miss him, but his spirit will live on in all that he touched.
