Beta test units will be ready to start shipping in the next few days!

Everything looks good on the latest batch of PCBs confirming the fix of some issues discovered in the first batch. Yes an AD2pHat was harmed(šŸ”„ < need blue smoke emoji) in the last test, RIP. The AD2pHat connection was also moved to give more room to connect the alarm panel wires when installing with big fingers. I went with Black masking on the PCBs this time thinking it would look cool on the bottom of the case. It does!

A new update of the firmware now with ethernet drivers for the ESP32-POE-ISO is in the dev branch on github and just about ready for another release.

The new laser cut aluminum case for the AlarmDecoder Raspberry Pi Bundle will arrive from a local company any day now! They will start shipping next week. This update was a little more R&D than expected so the price will likely go up by $5 for the next few months on the bundle. The design was adjusted a little to provide a punch out area so when we move to the new Pi board later this year it will be ready to hold it.

We recently updated the SmartThings integration to UPNPPush notifications for faster updates and more features. Contact ID reporting and relay OPEN/CLOSE events are now being sent to the SmartThings AlarmDecoder service and soon we will allow for even more virtual switches that can be associated with a contact id report code or relay. In the near future Virtual relays and Expanders will allow more integration so any SmartThings switch can act as an alarm zones*.

* currently Ademco Vista only. Virtual expander and relay support for DSC is on the road map for late 2018.

Another 8 months in the trenches writing code and I have finally surfaced with major improvements in the AlarmDecoder firmware.

In this release we have now achieved 100% compatibility between the AlarmDecoder virtual keypad emulation and a physical DSC keypads!! SO MANY SCREENS!!!

AD2* now supports all programming fields and sub menus. DSC mode also by default supports reporting the new LRR Contact ID report format with no panel programming needed for the reports. Programming additional report codes in panel programming mode will allow all sorts of messages to be transmitted.

The Long Range Radio protocol has been changed to now support Contact ID reporting that is standardized across all panels.

You can receive notifications on the USER who armed or disarmed what type of ARM mode and details on alarms including zone numbers and much more.

If you are running our Ad2Pi Appliance just select the updated firmware in the drop down list on the firmware page and take it for a spin. You can also upload using our cross platform GUI or our Python API.

Enjoy!

Well that went fast!

The AD2Pi our latest addition to the AD2* product line just sold out.
No worries we are getting more done right away and you can continue to backorder them on our site at AlarmDecoder.com.

We saw some fun projects spawn out of this design people were connecting them to all sorts of stuff and having lots of fun doing it.

Here is an Arduino based solution for a very cool new approach and way of thinking about home automation called SmartThings.
http://community.smartthings.com/t/adt-integration/3840

Our own web based appliance using the AD2Pi on a Raspberry Pi has gotten very popular and is soon to have a new major software release. We are adding many improvements suggested and contributed by the open source community and our own team of developers.

Smartthings Community I've seen tons of people talking about integrating ADT into Smartthings. I've seen several threads where users were setting up computers to route the data into smartthings. I personally thought this approach was expensive and required a lot of hardware for such a small task. Iā€¦

The first batch of the new 2.4 series of AD2USB boards are shipping to customers and are on the way to our distributors!

The updated USB version of the AD2* product line is the first to support galvanic isolation of 60v between the USB host and the alarm panel.

This removes the requirement for using the Honeywell ECP-ISO device when an AD2* is used with Vista-128FB panels where ground faults are not allowed.

It also allows POE and other devices that may cause a power difference between the host computer and the power that drives the alarm panel and prevent any ground loops.

For the Raspberry PI and Serial versions of the AD2* products it is still necessary to use the Honeywell ECP-ISO when using POE injectors that are not 802.3af compliant to power your Pi or home automation system or when working with FB panels.

The improvements we made to the last versions of the Serial and Raspberry Pi boards were included in the new USB version adding 24kv ESD and lightning protection on the USB and the alarm panel side of the device making this release able to weather even the most abusive environments.

Here is the photo plot of the new 2.4a Ad2USB Board. We have a few prototypes being built in the next few days for testing in our lightning lab to see if we can let the magic smoke out of the chips. We are still a few months away from shipping this version but will likely have some going out to our beta testers in another month.

Plastic Electronic Enclosures Simcobox

Just got of the phone with our good friends at Standard Injection Molding Company in Florida who fabricate the cases for our AD2USB product to discuss the changes in the new case and we are all set and should have them in a few weeks to test. I want to shout out to them that we appreciate how much support they have been in helping us design this case. Not only are they super helpful in getting the design right but its all right here in the USA. So THANKS!!!! you guys ROCK!!!

The latest revision of the AD2USB version 2.4 incorporates ground isolation from the alarm bus and the host computer. This is necessary for some advanced commercial panels and provides added protection for lightning and EMI. As have already done with the Ad2Serial and Ad2Pi boards we are also adding several 24kv EMI protection circuits on both the USB input and the alarm panel wires. With these changes this new design will handle even the most challenging electrical conditions.

We will post new video of it in our lightning test lab as well as well as other updates over the next several weeks so stay tuned.

The next major revision of the Ad2Serial board went out today for PCB fabrication and will be back in 10 days. The new version 2 board adds all of the improvements we made for EMI and lightning immunity on the new Ad2Pi Raspberry Pi expansion board. We also added Q1 for more control of the alarm bus just like the AD2USB board has. This currently unused circuit is necessary for support of DSC and other alarm panels.

The new Ad2Pi boards passed every test we threw at it. We zapped it as well as hit it with EMI pulses and the only thing to reboot was the alarm panel itself. The Pi and the Ad2Pi both were unaffected even with repeated direct strikes on the DO/DI lines.

We will be having a few more boards assembled this week and will be finishing up on a test Raspberry Pi firmware. Next week will ship out the first few test boards to people who asked to beta test and paid for the units plus engineering time to support the project. If you are interested in testing contact us at [email protected].

The new Ad2Pi Boards were back from fabrication on Monday and went right out for assembly with SMTNW. We should have all parts on them by tomorrow and we will begin functional testing.

We also tested our new 25kv ESD simulator today. Zaaaap.. Don't try this at home kids.

Our new ESD lab should be setup by the end of the week and we will test the new board under extreme conditions to see how the new design holds up.

SMT NW, Inc.

The new batch of AD2USB boards arrived today! Since we again underestimated sales growth, and ran out before we had expected, we decided to build 1000 units in this batch.

Our friends at SMTNW (http://smtnw.com), a local Tigard company, were again chosen to perform the manufacturing. We are also having them do the final assembly and testing. I did not mind putting them all together and testing them but my hands are not what they used to be when I was building pagers back in the late 80's.

We have implemented a new test fixture that does a full round-trip test with an alarm panel. The test fixture was put together with a Raspberry Pi and Python in order to perform some automatic tests against a real panel with a simple, but sexy, color ncurses user interface. It also records the serial numbers and test results in a SQLite database for traceability.
