It is with heavy hearts that the Omega family grieves the loss of a wonderful, hard-working, caring friend and co-worker, David Barry Simmons, age 58, who passed away on October 1st, 2021.

David joined Omega in 2016. During his tenure at Omega, David managed several sizeable, high-profile projects, with his signature project’s being the Hotel Indigo historic renovation in downtown Winston-Salem, and the Hampton Inn in Asheville. David was one of Omega’s most dedicated and hard-working employees, often working tireless long hours to meet a project deadline and live up to his commitments to Omega’s customers. David embodied Omega’s motto “We Build Trust” in the trust he built with customers, co-workers, and subcontractors. He was known around the office for being a generous, happy soul with a candy bowl and a drawer full of snacks, should anyone need a “pick-me-up” during the workday. We smile when we remember David’s warm, intelligent personality and stand in awe when we consider his many accomplishments in life.

David was active in several roles at Salem Baptist Church, a Scoutmaster for Troop 529 at Dobson United Methodist Church and assisted with many Old Hickory Council activities where he won several awards, including the District Award of Merit and Scoutmaster of the Year. He was also inducted into The Order of the Arrow – an honor society within Boy Scouts of America and participated in the conservation of the Pyrenean Mastiff dog breed, the oldest known canine breed. Above all, David was a dedicated Christian, father, and husband who leaves behind his wife, Tracy, and four sons, Peyton, Devin, Ryan, and Sheldon. David’s spirit and kindness will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Omega Goes Pink!
Today, Omega employees walked in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, and those who’ve been impacted by the disease that develops in 1 of 8 women in America. Thank you to our Georgia office who also joined in with their own internal event to show support for this cause.

Breast Cancer became the most common cancer globally as of 2021, accounting for 12% of all new annual cancer cases worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.

Internal fund-raising is taking place and we look forward to showing continuous support throughout October wearing pink and sharing how "Omega Goes Pink" on social media.

Thank you Chick-fil-A for a nice, boxed meal.

OMEGA BREAKS GROUND ON ROCKINGHAM COUNTY “SPEC” BUILDING

WINSTON-SALEM, NC –
Omega Construction’s Industrial Division began construction in July on its latest project, a forward-thinking “spec” building being developed by Greensboro’s Carroll Industrial Development, a division of The Carroll Companies. The project is located at 9301 NC-65, in Stokesdale, NC. This 176,000 square foot single-load “spec” building will offer warehousing/distribution space for Rockingham County, and will be complete and ready for tenant upfitting by Spring of 2022.

“This project will develop space for potential light industrial, assembly, warehouse or distribution companies, and will provide much needed building inventory for Rockingham County to stay ahead of the demand for such space, in an area that is developing quickly. With the demand we are seeing in the current market, I feel this product will be absorbed by an end user very quickly. We are excited to be a part of this growth in Rockingham County and the Piedmont Triad,” comments Omega’s Industrial Division Vice President, Kirk Matthews.

Omega’s Industrial Division currently has approximately 2.6 million square foot of industrial/distribution projects in construction or pre-construction across its primary footprint of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia. The Owner, Carroll Industrial Development, is dedicated to real estate development and management in various industries, and is credited with over three decades of real estate development experience through its parent company Carroll Companies. Evan Stone, Vice President of Industrial Business Development for Carroll is the Owner’s representative and can be contacted for additional details by interested parties.

Omega’s Project Manager, William Haas adds, “I have heard first-hand from representatives of Rockingham County how excited they are for this project to get underway, as it will likely increase the County’s tax base and create many new jobs. We have a great team on this project and look forward to completion in the first quarter of 2022.”

Additional project partners for the new building include Atlas Collaborative and The Timmons Group.

Our WOW 😱 Wednesday Project is... 🥁
The Theatre Alliance in Winston-Salem, NC!
Omega recently completed this 15,901 square foot renovation of a two-story taxi cab garage in downtown Winston. It was a unique project for a unique crowd.

“The mission of the Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance is to inspire, transform and unite the people of the Triad through a broad range of unique, diverse, and unconventional theatrical experiences. The Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance was founded by director Fred Gorelick in 1983. Gorelick, who taught advanced acting classes at the Little Theatre of Winston-Salem at the time, began producing “showcase” productions to show his students’ work to the public. His tireless energy and tenacity resulted in a permanent functioning theatre, the Winston Salem Theatre Alliance.

Theatre Alliance was incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. The first production was “The Royal Family”, performed at the Reynolda House, followed by “Crimes of The Heart” at Wake Forest University. Other shows in the 1980s included “The Real Thing”, “House of Blue Leaves”, “The Crucible”, and “True West”. The popularity of Theatre Alliance grew exponentially in the community in the 2000s, as the group performed at least 12 diverse mainstage shows annually, which reached multiple. Productions have included a wide variety of adult contemporary comedies and dramas, smaller-scale musicals and area premieres of emerging works with wide-ranging themes.

Over the years, Theatre Alliance has produced shows in various venues, including the Reynolda House Museum of American Art, the Augsburg Community Center, Wake Forest University, and several years at SECCA. Theatre Alliance hopes to continue entertaining its loyal fans and winning over new ones with some of the most interesting and vibrant theatre in the Triad.”

The new venue, at 650 W. Sixth Street, in the downtown arts district, just opened in Spring/Summer 2021, after two years of relocating two scene shops, a mainstage performance space, and a rehearsal room to the new location.
Omega Construction project specifics included the demolition of walls and utilities (in existing first floor space) to incorporate the new box office, concessions, and restroom areas. The project also involved removing and relocating two main support columns to open and create the stage, along with the design and installation of the theatrical riser and seating. Omega installed new helical piles and new main support columns, a spiral staircase to an elevated production booth at rear of theatre, removed the pre-existing slab to install new plumbing for the restrooms, and completed design/build for the new electrical, sprinkler, fire alarm, and mechanical systems.

Omega is proud to partner with The Theatre Alliance for this novel renovation.

Break a leg, Theatre Alliance!
